The Holy Bible is the third studio album by Welsh alternative rock band Manic Street Preachers. It was released on 30 August 1994 by record label Epic. At the time the album was written and recorded, lyricist and rhythm guitarist Richey Edwards was struggling with severe depression, alcohol abuse, self-harm and anorexia nervosa, and its contents are considered by many sources to reflect his mental state. The songs focus on themes relating to politics and human suffering.

It's difficult not to see The Holy Bible as Richey James's last will and testament, since this was the last Manics album he contributed to before his disappearance somewhere near the Severn Bridge. On the other hand, the additional DVD justifies its inclusion with a long interview and a batch of ferocious live performances - not least a terrifying take of Faster from, of all places, Top of the Pops. Manic Street Preachers.

A remarkable step forward from the Manic Street Preachers ' first two records, The Holy Bible is a tense, harrowing collection of tortured, cryptic declarations of depression - the diary of anorexia "4st 7lb" is one of the most chilling songs in rock & roll. James ' lyrics, which are punctuated by Nicky Wire 's political tirades, are unflinching in their bleakness. Every song has a passage frightening in its imagery
