Songs of Experience is the 14th studio album by Irish rock band U2. Released on 1 December 2017, it was produced by Jacknife Lee and Ryan Tedder with Steve Lillywhite, Andy Barlow, Jolyon Thomas, Brent Kutzle, Paul Epworth, Danger Mouse, and Declan Gaffney. The album is intended to be a companion piece to U2's previous record, Songs of Innocence (2014).
From 1981 to 1987, Welsh alt-rock band The Alarm was the opening band at 33 U2 concerts. Frontman Peters spoke with ATU2 about The Alarm’s time with U2, a friendship that didn’t end when their 1980s touring partnership stopped. After having Steve Lillywhite produce their first three albums, U2 looked for a more sophisticated and experimental sound. They hired Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno to produce "The Unforgettable Fire" and "The Joshua Tree" albums, which both put them onto the charts all over the world. After the 80s ended U2 re-invented themselves once again. Bono and the band used their notoriety more than ever expressing their opinions on social matters on a global scale
From Boy to The Unforgettable Fire, this list of the best U2 albums is ranked by rock lovers like yo. Formed in Dublin, Ireland in 1976, U2 had very little practical musical skills, but were able to sign to Island Records by 1980 and subsequently released Boy (1980), October (1981), and War (1983). This U2 discography is ranked from best to worst, so the top U2 albums can be found at the top of the list. To make it easy for you, we haven't included U2 singles, EPs, or compilations, so everything you see here should only be studio albums
The album that saw U2 reclaim their place as world’s biggest rock band was also the moment at which they stopped looking forward and started strip-mining their past. U2 recorded October as Bono, The Edge and Larry Mullen Jr wrestled with whether they actually wanted to be in an acclaimed new wave rock band in the first place. Assembled while deep in their Christian evangelical phase, U2’s second album is vulnerable and self-questioning, qualities that have never brought out the best in the group. With Steve Lillywhite returning to produce (he had also overseen their debut Boy),they occasionally punch through the piousness, such as on Gloria.
U2 will not release a new album in 2011 and they may never release the "club-sounding" LP they recorded last year. More than two years after Bono promised the "companion" to No Line on the Horizon, the Irish rockers now expect to release their 13th album in late 2012. When the record is finished, we'll know what it is," bassist Adam Clayton told Rolling Stone magazine. U2 have only released one album since 2004, despite working on three different projects Please make a new year contribution today to help us deliver the independent journalism the world needs for 2019 and beyond. U2 aren't even Ireland's best band or live act from the last 30 years.
This this the quintesential U2 album. One of the best albums to come out of the eighties when almost everything else was mediocre at best. When I think of U2 this is the album that stands out for me. Other albums came close but this is their best work. This album has 7 legends, 3 greats, and one bad. Unforgettable Fire has 7 legends, and 3 greats. But over all, I have to give it to Joshua Tree
Stranger still, the New Zealand LP was mispressed as a black vinyl mixed with about 40% brown vinyl swirls. The album reached N. in the UK. In the US, it peaked at N. on the album charts and N. 9 on the Billboard Top Pop Catalog Albums chart. It was certified as multi-platinum by the RIAA with 5 million units sold.
