The Gothic Archies - The Tragic Treasury: Songs From "A Series Of Unfortunate Events" download album

The Tragic Treasury: Songs from A Series of Unfortunate Events is the second and most recent studio album by indie pop band The Gothic Archies. The music, like the writing in the books themselves, is morose for comic effect.

The genre now receives what must be one of its definitive texts with The Tragic Treasury, comprising the 13 songs (plus two bonus tracks) Magnetic Fields leader Stephin Merritt composed for the audiobook versions of the Unfortunate Events tridecology. It's only appropriate that Merritt should wind up here: After all, 69 Love Songs inadvertently inaugurated the era of high-concept indie pop. Back in 1999, releasing a 3xCD thematic boxset seemed a smartly audacious way for a relative unknown to grab a few headlines.

The Tragic Treasury was released shortly before the 13th and final book of A Series of Unfortunate Events. It is a concept album with 13 tracks, each based in some way on a book from the series, as well as two bonus tracks, one of which was the original song intended for book 9. After the huge success of A Series of Unfortunate Events, riter/author Daniel Handler, better known as nefarious children's writer Lemony Snicket, asked longtime friend and musical collaborator Stephin Merritt (Handler has done time with the Magnetic Fields and the 6ths), to contribute some songs to the widely popular series' audio books. Eldritch) serves the story well. All of the 13 songs that appeared on the audio books are present, as well as two bonus tracks.
