One of the most influential rappers of the early 1990s, Grand Puba rose to fame as the leader of the group Brand Nubian before releasing several hits as a solo artist. Maxwell Dixon (born March 4, 1966), known professionally as Grand Puba is an American rapper and emcee best known as a member of the group Brand Nubian from New Rochelle, New York. He made his debut as Grand Puba Maxwell with the group Masters of Ceremony. Its album Dynamite (1988) was hailed by critics, but because of lack of sales the group soon disbanded and Puba became the lead emcee of Brand Nubian.

The Brand Nubian member produced three of the project’s 12 tracks. Big Spoxx produced five cuts, while PhD produced three and Vance Wright produced the other. After recording and producing as a member of Masters Of Ceremony on 1988’s Dynamite album and Brand Nubian on 1990’s One For All album, Grand Puba embarked upon a solo career in 1992, releasing his Reel To Reel album that year
