The Stooges - The Stooges download album

The Stooges is the debut studio album by American rock band The Stooges. It was released on August 5, 1969, by Elektra Records. Two songs, "I Wanna Be Your Dog" and "1969", were released as singles and the album peaked at number 106 on the Billboard album chart. 1969" was featured on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Songs at It is considered a landmark proto-punk album.

US garage rock band (formed in Michigan '67 by Iggy Pop, Dave Alexander, Scott and Ron Asheton) that are thought to have kickstarted the punk rock revolution.

The Stooges got to make their self-titled debut album when Elektra Records publicist Danny Fields came to Michigan to sign the MC5 and ended up signing signing both bands. The album was produced by former Velvet Underground bassist John Cale, and was rumored to have been half-written the night before the first recording session. It was a commercial and critical failure at the time, despite introducing the world to what would become one of the most influential bands in rock history. The Stooges Q&A.

Everyone loves the Stooges now, but everyone hated them when they first emerged. After the death of saxophonist Steve Mackay, here are 10 songs that define the original punks. While the Stooges had a few obvious points of influence - the swagger of the early Rolling Stones, the horny pound of the Troggs, the fuzztone sneer of a thousand teenage garage bands, and the Velvet Underground's experimental eagerness to leap into the void - they didn't really sound like anyone else around when their first album hit the streets in 1969. It's hard to say if Ron Asheton, Scott Asheton, Dave Alexander, and the man then known as Iggy Stooge were capable of making anything more sophisticated than this, but if they were, they weren't letting on, and the best.

A typical Stooges song of the period would involve two minutes of composed song followed by several minutes of improvisation. Having assumed that the five songs as normally performed would cover requirements for the album, the Stooges were told by their record label
