Outlaws are a southern rock band formed in Tampa, Florida in late 1967 by guitarist/vocalist Hughie Thomasson, drummer David Dix, bassist Phil Humberg, guitarists Hobie O'Brien and Frank Guidry, plus singer Herb Pino. Guidry brought the name Outlaws with him when he joined(he'd been in another group that had that name). Previous to Guidry's arrival the band had been called The Rogues, then The Four Letter Words. But this album was likewise never released and Gernhard vanished soon after. Ronny Elliott was brought in around this time to play bass while O'Keefe briefly switched to guitar.

The Outlaws' self-titled debut was released in 1975, a few years after the Allman Brothers Band's greatest glories and a couple of years before the untimely demise of the original Lynyrd Skynyrd. The Outlaws latched onto their Southern heritage by way of Florida, threw in some harmony by way of the Eagles, and then wrote a number of songs that played to their strengths. The result was - and is - a good classic rock & roll album.

Outlaws (band) – Guidry owned the name the Outlaws. He had been in a band using that name, previous to Guidrys arrival the band was called The Rogues, then The Four Letter Words. The Outlaws earliest well known songs were There Goes Another Love Song and Green Grass and High Tides, both from their 1975 eponymous debut album. Their 1980 cover of Riders in the Sky from the album Ghost Riders was their biggest single chart success, while the Outlaws are generally considered to be a part of the southern rock genre, there are distinct differences in their approach and their influences. Their primary similarity to other rock bands is the dual lead guitar interplay.
