Sonic Youth - Goo download album

Goo is the sixth studio album by American alternative rock band Sonic Youth, released on June 26, 1990 by DGC Records. For this album, the band sought to expand upon its trademark alternating guitar arrangements and the layered sound of their previous album Daydream Nation (1988). The band's songwriting on Goo is more topical than past works, exploring themes of female empowerment and pop culture.

Goo" was Sonic Youth's eighth album, and their first for DGC/Geffen. The album was their major label debut, and with arena rock staples like "Kool Thing" and "Dirty Boots" deep in its grooves, it allowed Sonic Youth to enter the mainstream world, destroy everything in their path, and emerge victorious, riding the top 10 charts to sonic stardom and glory. or at least get them the opening spot on the 1991 Crazy Horse tour.

This is the cover of Sonic Youth's 1990 album "Goo". It's one of the most iconic record covers in the history of indie rock, and was drawn by the artist Raymond Pettibon based on this old photograph. The cover has been used on a lot of merchandise, and has been parodied many times over. All of these images were found on a Tumblr called Goo Mashups, and some were created specifically to appear on that site.

Reviews about Sonic Youth - Goo (2):
Jugami
How does the original sounds compared to the 2015 back to black pressing ?
Cerekelv
"Goo" is universally considered a first "sell-out" album by Sonics. What it really means is that they cut on noise and added more melody, which resulted in a slew of major and minor hits (the biggest being Kool Thing, followed by 100%, Dirty Boots and Drunken Butterfly). So, all in all, it was a major success for a band, whether it was due to success/explosion of bands like Nirvana or move to a major label. Lyrically, much of it deals with violence and abuse (if it its still not clear, one should take a look at the words written on the cover). There's weird Carpenters obsession theme (Tunic), referral to the murder of Joe Cole, Henry Rollins roadie (100%), protest against male hegemony (Kool Thing, Swimsuit Issue) and many other less clear subjects (Dirty Boots, Mildred Pierce, Titanium Expose, Drunken Butterfly). One should also note that not all songs feature typical verse-chorus verse form - in fact, Mildred Pierce is ending abruptly with heavily distorted voice of Thurston Moore screaming out the name of the song for a minute or so. So there you have it - a very diverse work, probably one of the best that they done in the 90s.
