Glass Prism - Poe Through The Glass Prism download album

Christiano had the idea to record a concept album based on lyrics by Edgar Allen Poe and the band took its new name from their debut album title "Poe Through The Glass Prism". Their first album did moderately well but they wouldn't achieve any success beyond that. A national tour as the opening act for Blood, Sweat And Tears was cancelled and their second album, "On Joy And Sorrow", received virtually no promotion and failed to make the charts.

The Glass Prism mix jazz, rock and psychedelia to create a powerful backround for Poe's poetry to come to life. Drummers and guitarists will apriciate this album. Any psych fans will enjoy also. Reply See 1 reply Notify me 1 Helpful.

Poe Through The Glass Prism.

The debut release from Pennsylvania quartet Glass Prism sets the poetry of Edgar Allan Poe to grandiose psychedelic arrangements - the concept's more than a bit suspect, of course, but there's no denying the album's ambition or its execution. Both Tom Varano and Augie Christiano are imaginative composers skilled at folding classical and jazz precepts into the hard rock idiom, and their nuanced arrangements (dominated by chiaroscuro shades of funereal organ) artfully convey the melancholy and macabre at the heart of Poe's verse

Their first album is an attempt to set poems by Edgar Allan Poe to a rock format. Although they don't really pull it off the music isn't bad on cuts like The Raven. The band were mostly Italian Americans who came from the e area of Pennsylvania.
