Eat Static was formed in 1989 by Merv Pepler and Joie Hinton as a creative outlet for the diverse range of electronic music that the pair were writing. Always intended as a live band, Eat Static can legitimately claim to be one of the UK's first live techno outfits. A loyal following quickly formed, with the crowds realising that dance could be performed live at a time when 'live' performances by other bands were often mimed PA’s. Since that time Eat Static have played hundreds of gigs headlining festivals and shows around the world. The album was infused with dashes of Arabian and jazzy influences alongside solid rhythmic elements of dub/breaks and spaced out other-worldly electronica. In 2015 Eat Static released their critically acclaimed 25th anniversary double album called Dead Planet, Human Upgrade.
spring release on Interchill Records. Aside from this, he’s also been working on the debut album from his techno/acid project STRONTIUM DOGS also due for a release early next year. He will also be making his, now annual, appearances at OZORA Festival 2017 and yet again, promises fresh original experiments in the world of electronica.

Several live and archival sets followed over the next few years, including 2009's Revisitation: The Singles 1993-1998 and 2013's The Peel Sessions: Peel Your Head. For 2015's double album Dead Planet/Human Upgrade, Pepler revisited the modular synthesis of Eat Static's early days and collaborated with artists including Robert Smith and Gong's Steve Hillage. Everitt returned for 2017's Last Ship to Paradise, which he and Pepler created using only modular synthesis.
Eat Static is an electronic music project from Frome, Somerset, England formed in 1989 by Merv Pepler and Joie Hinton. Hinton left the group in February 2008 after 18 years to spend more time with his family. Merv Pepler and Joie Hinton met as drummer and keyboard player (respectively) for Ozric Tentacles, a long-standing psychedelic rock band from Somerset. Although Ozric Tentacles incorporated elements of electronic music, Pepler and Hinton were drawn towards the rave-oriented dance music.
