Folk singers Joan Baez and Bob Dylan wowed audiences when they performed duets in live concerts, but the backstage pairing was not always so melodic. When 19-year-old Dylan arrived in Greenwich Village in January 1961, Baez had long been the Queen of Folk. In two short years, Dylan ascended the throne as King of this musical monarchy as they wowed audiences from coast to coast with their live duets. In his 2004 autobiography "Chronicles: Volume One," Dylan wrote that back in Minnesota, the first time he saw Baez on TV: I couldn’t stop looking.

Her mother, Joan Baez (née Bridge), referred to as Joan Senior or "Big Joan", was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1913 as the second daughter of an English Anglican priest who claimed to be descended from the Dukes of Chandos  . A few months later, Baez and two other folk enthusiasts made plans to record an album in the cellar of a friend's house. The three sang solos and duets, a family friend designed the album cover, and it was released on Veritas Records that same year as Folksingers 'Round Harvard Square. My opinion is that Joan Baez believed Bob Dylan was somebody he was not; like her Lover or her Guru. On the same album we have Sara, the woman Bob Dylan decided to marry and he was still in love with her. He was trying to reconquer her in that song.
