Prospect Hill ‎(CD, Album). Music Maker Relief Foundation. referencing Prospect Hill, CD, Album, MMCD167. I’d like to imagine that Dom Flemons mystically appears on storefront porches across America, weaving his magical blend of ragtime Americana and blues in the late afternoon of any given Friday. where folks on a mission get sidetracked and waylaid, dropping dimes in the town’s only remaining pay-phone, ringing their friends, telling ‘em they’ll be late, ringing their families

Flemons' songs may draw heavily from old styles, but Prospect Hill is never locked in the past. I've worked a lot of years, trying to balance that,' he says. I tried to make sure when I presented songs, I made them as good as the old songs I might try to interpret.

See All. Prospect Hill.

I’d like to imagine that Dom Flemons mystically appears on storefront porches across America, weaving his magical blend of ragtime Americana and blues in the late afternoon of any given Friday ... where folks on a mission get sidetracked and waylaid, dropping dimes in the town’s only remaining pay-phone, ringing their friends, telling ‘em they’ll be late, ringing their families, and telling them to come on down, ‘cause there’s a man splintering the floorboards, one hand on the microphone, the other raised to the heavens, lost in a musical spirituality you haven’t heard in a very long time.Dom’s songs come across basic enough on the first listen, but later on, as the moon comes up and the crowd grows, you’re gonna hear a sophistication of sound that’s rich and layered, built on a dusty time honored tradition of truth and honesty, where every note, nuance, and musical gesture has been considered ... as if he’s secretly playing to all the minstrel ghosts who line the back roads of this nation.Dom does have some surprises up his sleeves, and a wry smile will cross your face when he slides them out, where nearly everything he does sounds like a cohesive improvisation ... and nearly demanding that the mono button be pressed.Review by Jenell Kesler
