Leron Carson is still an unknown figure, a kid who used to make viciously raw and futuristic techno tracks in the late 1980s! China Trax, alongside the rest of his tracks on a different Sound Signature double 12, is totally ahead of its time and if it was truly made in 1987 then it is nothing short of amazing. Of course, its not just the year it was made in thats interesting but also the fact that its music without an age, able to be appreciated by any generation of techno freaks. Oh yes, we love it when Theo represses some of his most sought after tracks and this one is particularly well-timed. Both songs are pretty minimal. Not what I would expect off the top of my head when I think of Theo Parrish, but I definitely like it.

Theo has partly explained the story of this track in his red bull interview: He was 15 years old, living at his grandmother's house, and he 'borrowed' his uncle's keyboard for a few days or so to record some tracks onto cassette, and the last one of these turned out to be Insane Asylum. He says it originally had a rediculous drum part, but it didn't line up with the keyboard right, so all he kept was the kick... The crunchy parts you hear in the track are Theo hitting the busted RCA cable on the back of the casio so that it would partially short out, and he could hit it again to go back to normal. It sort of blew my mind to hear the story of this record, so I reckoned I'd better share it here.

This is definitely the most misunderstood entry in the Sound Signature catalogue. Very minimal, very lo-fi, and very unlike everything else Theo has done. This is one of those records that need to be dropped at a very specific time in a set to be as effective as possible. Unfortunately, most dancefloors on this planet outside of those Theo is playing to reach that point. I really love this record.
