Eleanor Steber (July 17, 1914 – October 3, 1990) was an American operatic soprano. Eleanor Steber was born in Wheeling, West Virginia on July 17, 1914. She was the daughter of William Charles Steber, Sr. (1888–1966) and Ida Amelia (née Nolte) Steber (1885–1985).

There are several famous broadcasts including the Countess in the Marriage of Figaro with Bruno Walter from 1944, the Marschallin in Rosenkavalier with Reiner in 1949, and Violetta in Traviata in 1949 with Antonicelli conducting. There are also commercial recordings of Elsa from Lohengrin from Bayreuth 1953, Barber's Vanessa from 1958, and a 1954 Puccini's Fanciulla del West. Steber's lyric voice with beautiful ringing high notes developed into an ideal voice for Strauss in the 1950's
