The Crystals / The Phil Spector Group - All Grown Up download album
Legacy’s handsome 2011 box set The Philles Album Collection attempts to mount a case for Spector as an album artist by collecting six original LPs - the Crystals’ Twist Uptown, He’s a Rebel, and Sing the Greatest Hits, Vol. 1; Bob B. Soxx & the Blue Jeans’ Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah; the Ronettes’ Presenting the Fabulous Ronettes Featuring Veronica; and Philles Records. Presents Today’s Hits (not one of them previously issued on CD) - and pairing them with a disc of rarities and outtakes, yet it winds up underlining the point that LPs really weren’t Spector’s format.
The Crystals were an American vocal group based in New York, considered one of the defining acts of the girl group era in the first half of the 1960s. Their 1961–1964 chart hits, including "There's No Other (Like My Baby)", "Uptown", "He's Sure the Boy I Love", "He's a Rebel", "Da Doo Ron Ron" and "Then He Kissed Me", featured three successive female lead singers, and were all produced by Phil Spector. so Spector recorded and released their version under the Crystals' banner. Not only did the Ronettes become Philles Records' priority act, the Ronettes actually replaced the Crystals on four album tracks on the 1963 compilation LP The Crystals Sing the Greatest Hits. "All Grown Up" b/w "Irving (Jaggered Sixteenths)" (Instrumental).
