Rush - Counterparts download album

Counterparts is the fifteenth studio album by Canadian rock band Rush, released October 19, 1993 on Anthem Records. After they finished touring their previous album Roll the Bones (1991) in mid-1992, the band took a break before they started work on a follow-up. Counterparts reached No. 2 in the US, one of their two highest charting albums in the country, and No. 6 in Canada. The first single, "Stick It Out", was No. 1 on the Billboard Album Rock Tracks chart for four weeks.

By 1993, alternative rock had arrived in a big way, and surprisingly, Canadian veterans Rush were game, releasing their most honest and organic rock & roll record in over a decade with Counterparts. Opener "Animate" is straightforward enough, but doesn't even hint at the guitar ferocity and lyrical angst of "Stick it Out," a song which undoubtedly polarizes Rush fans to this day.

Often considered their return to guitar-driven rock, I feel it's an often overlooked gem in the Rush catalogue. While some complain that it's too polished or not proggy enough, I think it's a wonderful sounding album. Overall, "Animate" is a great way to start off any album, and a Rush album is no exception. Next is one of the darkest Rush songs I've ever heard, Stick it Out. Driven by heavy guitar/feedback in the intro and some dissonant chords as it builds up, the song moves seamlessly into a chorus with a chunky bass/guitar lick.

This album became Rush's highest charting album in the US, peaking at on The Billboard 200 (only for Pearl Jam's Vs. to prevent it from hitting in the US). The album went Platinum according to Atlantic Records, although the RIAA has it listed as Gold. Recording information
