Robert (bob) cornford – 15 may 1940 – 17 july 1983. Bob Cornford) was a very interesting man, also with a very broad musical interest and involvements. This guy was a very central figure in the new music scene in London, before the London Sinfonietta wa. e was part of the core of people that established the London Sinfonietta. Also he was involved in commercial music, MD, jazz, arranging thing. ust a fantastic all rounder. Evan Parker (interviewed in 1994). Robert Cornford was a multi-talented musician who died tragically young. After training and performing as a classical musician he caught the jazz bug and became an inventive and sensitive jazz pianist. He also composed and arranged for big bands and orchestras as well as small groups.
Robert Leslie "Bob" Cornford (May 15, 1940 - July 18, 1983) was a British jazz pianist and composer. Cornford was born in Brazil to British nationals. He received classical training in music, including studies at the Royal College of Music. He joined the ensemble of John Dankworth in the 1960s while working as an arranger and orchestrator on for the BBC; he composed for the NDR Radiophilharmonie and the DR Big Band. The NDR perform his Coalescence and In Memoriam.
b. Robert Leslie Cornford, 15 May 1940, Brazil, d. 18 July 1983. Encouraged in his musical interests, in particular the piano, by his family (his British parents were resident in South America at the time of his birth), Cornford studied at London’s Royal College of Music. While in his twenties he developed an interest in jazz and became a member of John Dankworth’s band and also arranged and orchestrated for the BBC.
