Live Through This is the second studio album by American alternative rock band Hole. It was released by DGC Records on April 12, 1994, one week after frontwoman Courtney Love's husband, Kurt Cobain, died by suicide in their home. It is the only Hole album to feature bassist Kristen Pfaff before her death in June 1994. Recorded in October 1993, Live Through This marked a divergence from the band's unpolished hardcore aesthetics to more refined melodies and structure

Released April 12, 1994. Live Through This Tracklist. Considered by many to be their magnum opus, Live Through This, Hole’s second studio album following Pretty On the Inside (1991), was met with much acclaim: critics praised Courtney Love’s crooning as she sings of life’s pressures and her own personal challenges. Many of her lyrics cover deeply-rooted emotions, spanning topics such as motherhood, depression, child abuse, and self-image, as well as her transcendence over her personal issues.
Hole’s second album, Live Through This, famously came out four days after Love’s husband Kurt Cobain was found dead at their home in Seattle. The sudden tragedy threatened to swallow the music, to say nothing of the genre and social movement in which it was encased
Courtney Love completely revamped Hole before recording their second album, keeping only Eric Erlandson in the lineup. That is one of the reasons why Live Through This sounds so shockingly different from Pretty on the Inside, but the real reason is Love's desire to compete in the same commercial alternative rock arena as her husband, Kurt Cobain
However upon purchasing Pretty On The Inside I grew quite attached to them. Again it was a worthwhile album but yet still I thought that it just wasn’t the best that Hole could do. The songwriting and lyrics had improved vastly and the musicianship was much better but unfortunately it lacked the raw angst and energy that I had loved from Pretty On The Inside and ended up sounding just like pretty much any decent mainstream pop/rock band. Then finally I got Live Through This (which I had heard was the strongest Hole album), I loved it straight away. It had the raw angst of Pretty On The Inside mixed in with well crafted pop songs like on Celebrity Skin.
