Finally after hearing the title track from this album being blasted out during a crazy, booze-and-drug infested weekend during the summer, I was instantly hooked and set out to pick this album up. Now to my disappointment, and probably Homer's, Grand Funk doesn't seem to get much respect on these forums or in general.

Grand Funk Railroad were huge during the first half of the '70s. Every album they released between 1969 and 1975 went either gold or platinum, and in 1971 they even beat the Beatles' box-office record at Shea Stadium, selling out the venue in less than 72 hours. With manager Terry Knight at the helm, Grand Funk were on a skyward trajectory. But it wasn't a bump-free ride. The singles 'We're an American Band' and 'Walk Like a Man' climbed to No. and 19, respectively. The LP went on to define the band and the next phase of its career. The following year they released another Top 5 album and their second No. 1 single. The Railroad were on a roll. Next: Top 10 Grand Funk Railroad Songs. Filed Under: Grand Funk Railroad. About We're an American Band. The Grand Funk’s biggest hit, describing the life of a travelling rock (super) band – considered their signature song. It is a concert staple and still has prominent playing time in classic rock radio. It was the first hit under their shortened name – Grand Funk (previously Grand Funk Railroad). From the very successful goldalbum with the same name, the first one undr manager/producer rocker Todd Rungren. The earlier issues of the album were in gold vinyl, which started a (temporary) trend of colorful records

Lyrics to "We're An American Band" song by Grand Funk Railroad: Out on the road for forty days Last night in Little Rock put me in a haze Sweet, sweet Connie, doin'. Four young chiquitas in Omaha Waitin' for the band to return from the show Feelin' good, feelin' right, it's Saturday night The hotel detective, he was outta sight Now these fine ladies, they had a plan They was out to meet the boys in the band They said, "Come on dudes, let's get it on" And we proceeded to tear that. We're an American band We're an American band We're comin' to your town We'll help you party it down We're an American band.
