Since Bloodrock's studio albums often sounded leaden, as if they were a live jam band that couldn't figure out how to translate their sound to the studio, it wouldn't be an unnatural supposition that if their first live effort, appropriately titled Bloodrock "Live," would be more dynamic and exciting than the average Bloodrock album. Ironically, it's worse. Given the opportunity to lay back and jam, the group seizes the day, turning in meandering, indulgent performances that are utterly plain and characterless.

Bloodrock was an early '70s hard rock band from Fort Worth, TX, led by singer/drummer Jim Rutledge for the first LP. Bloodrock doesn't do anything particularly exciting with the material, aside from slightly extended solos and jamming, but they do recreate it quite faithfully. The mix of songs is good as well, but I can't help but think I would like this album even better if it had "Timepiece", "Melvin Laid an Egg," or "Whiskey Vengeance" - three songs that, to me, are not only definitive Bloodrock, but would have gotten completely badass live treatments. What is included, however, is completely awesome. The extended versions of ".
