Saturday Night and Sunday Morning is a 1960 British drama film directed by Karel Reisz and produced by Tony Richardson. It is an adaptation of the 1958 novel of the same name by Alan Sillitoe, who also wrote the screenplay adaptation. The film is about a young machinist who spends his weekends drinking and partying, all the while having an affair with a married woman.
Saturday Night, Sunday Morning is a live recording of The Stranglers in concert. By coincidence, it was Hugh Cornwell's last concert with the band that had been recorded for posterity. The tracks were mixed by Stuart MacMillan at Central Television Music Studio (Birmingham) in 1990. The mix session was attended by . Burnel, Jet Black and Dave Greenfield, with Hugh Cornwell not attending. This recording was eventually released in 1993, as Saturday Night, Sunday Morning

It is never tied to stage precedents; and, unlike them, it keeps entirely within its world, introducing no characters to tell its audience what to think but making its points through firm writing and close observation. Finney gives a magnetic performance here, making Arthur both loathsome but somewhat lovable (not unlike Michael Caine's Alfie a few years later).
