Promises, Promises" was the second hit single for the British new wave group Naked Eyes in 1983. The song went on to become a top-20 hit in the US that October, peaking at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. It was their follow up to their earlier hit "Always Something There to Remind Me" by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, which was a top-ten hit in the .

Most people remember Naked Eyes's 1983 cover of "Always Something There To Remind Me", but assume that was the only song worth hearing by the group. Mention "Promises, Promises", and you're bound to get a response like, "They did THAT one, too?" The fact is Naked Eyes is probably the most underappreciated group of the 1980s. They came closer than any other band to perfecting the hooks, melodies, and production values of early 1980s synth-pop.

Album Burning Bridges. Promises, Promises Lyrics. Never had a doubt in the beginning Never a doubt Trusted you true in the beginning I loved you right through. Arm in arm we laughed like kids At all the silly things we did. You made me promises, promises Knowing I'd believe Promises, promises You knew you'd never keep. You made me promises, promises You knew you'd never keep Promises, promises Why do I believe? Arm in arm we laughed like kids At all the silly things we did But you can't finish what you start If this is love it breaks my heart. You made me promises, promises You knew you'd never keep Promises, promises Why do I believe All of your promises You knew you'd never keep Promises, promises Why do I believe? Reviews about Naked Eyes - Promises, Promises (The Very Best Of Naked Eyes) (1):
Wire
To date, this CD release remains the only digital source for the version of "The Time Is Now" that appeared on the USA 7" B-Side of "Always Something There To Remind Me". It is clearly a different mix than the "Burning Bridges" album version. Different intro, outro, processing/reverb and slight variation in instrument/percussion sounds. My guess is this mix was created after the album version.
