An album that Ace owns, yet has never previously reissued itself, is the 1962 Crown release Roosevelt Sykes Sings The Blues. This short but engaging 10 tracker was recorded in Chicago, and it features the legendary Honey Dripper in the company of a truly stellar set of Chi Town blues giants, namely Willie Dixon on bass, Jump Jackson on drums and Sax Mallard on – well go on, take a guess.

Despite the shoddiness of the recording, this album on the cheaply pressed Crown logo nevertheless impressively captured Sykes's rough-and-tumble boogie and blues prowess in a band setting.

Roosevelt Sykes is one of those blues artists who have been largely forgotten. I have to admit I'd never heard of Roosevelt Sykes before reading Wald's book. But during the 1930s and 1940s, Roosevelt Sykes was one of the major blues piano players. I bought a few of Sykes' 1960s albums, "Blues By Roosevelt" and "The Honeydrippers Ball" after reading Wald's book. This November 2006 re-issue replicates that ultra-rare US-only 1962 album "Sings The Blues" on Crown Records CLP 5287. It's a proper remaster from the original analogue tapes and the sound is SUPERB - loud and clear - a typically superb job done by one of Britain's best re-issue labels. The band for the album consisted of: ROOSEVELT "The Honeydripper" SYKES on Piano OETT "Sax" MALLARD on Saxophone WILLIE DIXON on Upright Bass ARMAND "Jump" JACKSON on Drums.
