Magnets was The Vapors' second album, released in 1981. The album continued The Vapors' dark themes, taking them to a slightly darker level, with "Jimmie Jones" being about Jim Jones, "Isolated Case" about state oppression and disillusionment with politics, "Civic Hall" about the assault Dave suffered at the hands of overzealous Metropolitan policemen, "Spiders" and "Can't Talk Anymore" about mental illness, and the title track being about the assassinations of John Kennedy and Robert Kennedy.
David Fenton was obviously growing tired of being written off as lightweight after "Turning Japanese" and responded with the more ambitious and mature Magnets. Here he explores the darker side of life, discussing the Kennedy assasination ("Magnets"), police harrassment ("Civic Hall") and even cult leader/mass murder Rev. Jim Jones ("Jimmy Jones," the failed single).

The motorcade is never-ending The marshalls wave their wheel appeal Only some of them are breathing Only some know what to feel. The generals grit their teeth and smile Just for a little while Until they think they can't be seen Then pour contempt through eyes that seem like magnets Small and hard Magnets. They rolled away down through the arches The wet streets shined confetti-lined The sun burns everything it touches The motorcade dissolves the mind. Martin Handford created the album cover for The Vapors' 1981 album Magnets.

Listen free to The Vapors – Magnets (Jimmie Jones, Spiders and more). Released in 1981, Magnets was the second album by The Vapors. The theme of this album circles mostly around psychotic people and can be considered quite dark. The lead-single and opening track on this album Jimmie Jones is about a cult leader for example and the title track (Magnets) is about the assassination of John F Kennedy. The album also got less airplay then its predecessor (New Clear Days) and wasn't received as well either.
