The Bridge (Concept of a Culture) is the seventh studio album by American hip hop recording artist Grandmaster Flash, his first studio album since 1998's Flash is Back. The album was released on February 24, 2009 under Strut Records. The album features guest appearances from rappers Q-Tip, Jumz, Afasi, Busta Rhymes, MC Supernatural, Snoop Dogg, Big Daddy Kane, Kase-O and Grandmaster Caz. The production was primarily handled by Grandmaster Flash himself.
Hip hop pioneer Grandmaster Flash was pivotal in developing turntablism as an artform and, with the Furious Five, created rap’s foremost live show alongside hits for Sugar Hill Records. With Strut, he re-launched his international career in 2001 with ‘The Official Adventures Of’ mix album before recording a new studio album, ‘The Bridge: Concept of A Culture’ with Snoop Dogg and Busta Rhymes.

The album is hardly weighed down by either of these milestones and the man himself acts not as a DJ but a ring leader dividing his time between songwriting, production, programming, and playing the keys. By keeping those legendary hands off the wheels of steel, Flash has already disappointed the golden age hip-hop purist, and with lightweight party numbers like "Swagger" or "Grown & Sexy" on the track list, he seems bound to drive away those expecting proper reverence.
The production of The Bridge sounds like it came out of an extended catch-up session, the work of a man best accustomed to the breakbeat era's techniques trying his hand at the last ten years' worth of club-rap digitalism. That's why there's almost no samples on this album- and, alarmingly enough, a severe dearth of actual scratching and cutting, aside from the interlude-length track "Zuka the Sound" and the clusterfuck "Here Comes My DJ", which features DJ Kool and DJ Demo and a lot of sub-Khaled yelling. Weak as The Bridge is, it ' s not even remotely enough to damage his legacy or his true skills on the wheels of steel.
