Thirteenager (Cass, Album). Paint The Fence Invisible (CDr, Album). Not On Label (Greno Self-released).
Paint the Fence Invisible. Cronin still gets in a few howls and the occasional mewl, and Drug Rug's songs still have a loose, easygoing charm to them, but you'd be forgiven (and wrong) if you presumed a lineup change prior to the band's sophomore set, Paint the Fence Invisible. Nothing on Drug Rug predicted the bratty, almost Be Your Own Pet-like "Hannah, Please" or the New ed rush of "Haunting You", but it's an easy shock to bear; Paint the Fence Invisible is maybe half as weird as its predecessor, but roughly twice as tuneful, and a hell of a lot more fun.
Two years after the release of their self-titled debut album, Drug Rug haven't changed their approach much, but they have genuinely gotten better at it. On their sophomore effort, Paint the Fence Invisible, Drug Rug' s lo-fi indie pop sounds a bit more polished (far from slick, but clearly more assured), the melodies are better served by the ensemble playing, and Sarah Cronin has gained much better control over her vocals than she did on the group's first record, both in her harmonies with Tommy Allen.
Paint The Fence Invisible is a new chance for a band that needed a little help to get their ideas over the counter and on to the wax, and what we’re left with can’t be turned down. On newfound home Black and Greene Records, Drug Rug has been able to stretch out a bit, and with a surprising amount of detail. The little punctuations in each track are just as planned as the simple and catchy main structure, as is the case with the haunting/clever xylophone in Don’t Be Frightened By the Devil, or the subtle zither on Sooner The Better.
ALBUM: Paint the Fence Invisible. presumably after they made sweet, sweet love.

Paint The Fence Invisible - Fairly Good, Based on 3 Critics. 75. Not to dwell on the obvious, but Drug Rug is a particularly fitting name given the playful psychedelic touches and overall expulsive charms of the band's second full-length, Paint the Fence Invisible. It evokes that distinctly childlike sensation of spreading not some but all of the toys across the floor and creating a domain where Lego people or Matchbook cars can come to life. Only in this case the toys are drugs.
