No Thank You is Kyle Falconer’s, ex-frontman for Scottish indie band The View, debut solo album since departing from the group. Kyle opened up, in an interview with Coney’s Loft, as to why he began his solo career: The View always had a punk element which I thought was too erratic for some of my songs. I feel it’s the perfect time in my life just now. Kyle dedicated this album to his daughter while flaunting his newly-found sobriety. However, the lyrics also depict the struggle of remaining sober-using his daughter as a strong reason against relapsing
No Thank You. Riverman Records. Release date: July 27th. After spending time in rehab in Thailand and embracing fatherhood, The View frontman returns in good form with a summery pop vibe on his debut album. A raw and brutally honest collection of songs, much of ‘No Thank You’ finds Falconer exploring a tumultuous time in his life. Poor Me has traces of Jake Bugg in there and has a anthemic chorus which lifts the mantra from Alcoholics Anonymous meetings ‘Poor me, poor me, pour me another drink’ to great effect.

After five albums and over ten years fronting Scots rockers The View, Kyle Falconer goes it alone on his first solo album, inspired by family and therapy and owing its title to a chat with Liam Gallagher. Falconer’s chirpy Dundonian brogue is as upbeat as ever, but the songs are missing some of that ramshackle quality that won the View their mid-2000s success. It’s candid stuff that doesn’t quite resonate due to Falconer’s characteristically chipper delivery. Kelly’ is a well-intentioned but confused ditty about a schoolmate’s gender identity, a bright melody undercut by its head-scratching lyrics.
Alongside the album, there’s the opportunity to purchase a range of exclusive Kyle Falconer merchandise and get a host of updates from Kyle along the way. PledgeMusic customers will also be the first to know about new items and experiences added along the way. So welcome, let’s get started.
