Various artists - 1969). The Woodstock Festival (Woodstock Music and Art Fair, or Woodstock) was a music festival and a gathering of the iconic hippie culture of the 1960s. It took place in Bethel on land the farmer Max Yasgur United States, about sixty miles from Woodstock in upstate New York. A double album, Woodstock Two, was released a year later, in July 1971 - for which this post is devoted. After the multi-platinum success of Music from the Original Soundtrack and More: Woodstock that accompanied Michael Wadleigh's documentary film Woodstock (two million copies sold and it spent four consecutive weeks at the top of the Billboard charts, and even a Top 20 spot on its R&B chart!), Woodstock Two was inevitable as a sequel.
Woodstock: Music from the Original Soundtrack and More is a live album of selected performances from the 1969 Woodstock counterculture festival. Originally released on Atlantic Records' Cotillion label as a triple album on May 11, 1970, it was re-released as a two-CD set in 1994. Veteran producer Eddie Kramer was the sound engineer during the three-day event.
This second Woodstock album has a tamer sound than the first, with a lot of acoustic, folk, ballads, and blues pieces. Hendrix's pieces are possibly an exception, but those are all long and relatively uninteresting jams. Melanie sings her heart out on "Birthday of the Sun," although some might object to her strained voice. I actually prefer this live version of "Marrakesh Express" to the studio version with organ that sounds overly slick. This album is a must if you're trying to sustain that magical feeling of those 3 days of muddy fun and music. This completed the one-two punch of documenting the Woodstock Festival on record. Released on two discs in 1971, this collection was meant to serve as a highly anticipated follow-up to it's 1970 predecessor.
The Woodstock Diaries is an enthralling fly on the wall music documentary about the creation of Woodstock and rarely seen concert performances from the festival. Three one hour programmes directed by renowned documentary film-makers . Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus that captures the music and the story behind the Woodstock Music Festival in 1969. Woodstock Diaries contains electrifying live footage of many performers including: Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Janis Joplin, Joe Cocker, Jefferson Airplane, Sly & Family Stone, and Crosby Stills Nash & Young
Originally released in 1970 as a triple-LP, Music From The Original Soundtrack and More: Woodstock topped Billboard’s pop album chart for four weeks, and was a Top 20 R&B album as well. As potent a musical capsule as ever existed, it captures the three-day, 1969 concert event that united close to half a million members of what came to be known as the Woodstock Generation
