It was released on March 8, 1994, by Nothing Records and Interscope Records. Conceived after the 1991 Lollapalooza festival tour, recording for the album took place throughout 1992 and 1993 in Los Angeles. The album was produced by frontman Trent Reznor and Flood.
Nine Inch Nails second full-length studio album, The Downward Spiral (aka Halo 8) was created as a partially self-biographical tale about a man who was on a ‘downward spiral’ through depression to suicide. As with Halo 5, the album was recorded at 10050 Cielo Drive, the site Sharon Tate’s murder by the ‘Manson family’ in 1969. The house was converted into a record studio that Reznor called ‘Le Pig’, referencing when Susan Atkins wrote ‘Pig’ in Tate’s blood on the front door of the house. While I was working on Downward Spiral, I was living in the house where Sharon Tate was killed.
Complete your Nine Inch Nails collection. This is the second studio album from Nine Inch Nails and their most commercially successful. It reached number 2 in the Billboard Top 200 and produced four singles: "March of the Pigs", "Closer", "Piggy" (radio only), and "Hurt" (radio only). Album sales: 4,000,000 First release date: March 1994.
While a trademark of Nine Inch Nails always has been loud, explosive bursts of noise combined with softer, more ambient textures, here the whole album is imbued with such a sense of otherworldly fear and menace that it seems at times as if Reznor must at times be close to a grand implosion such are the full scale and power of the emotions. Although The Downward Spiral is splenetic and furious, everyone can identify with it on some level. We may not like to admit it, but the way in which we propelled this album into the upper echelons of popular culture speaks louder than our words.
By March 8, 1994, Reznor and his Nine Inch Nails cohorts finally released The Downward Spiral. The album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart, bested only by Soundgarden's Superunkown in its opening week. But it didn't have a hot song right out of the gate.
Listen free to Nine Inch Nails – The Downward Spiral (Mr. Self Destruct, Piggy and more). Halo 8" of the official Nine Inch Nails halo releases, it is a concept album detailing the destruction of an undisclosed man; from the beginning to his climatic suicide . To record the album, Reznor rented the house located at 10050 Ciel. iscover more music, concerts, videos, and pictures with the largest catalogue online at Last.
The Downward Spiral (also known as Halo 8) is Nine Inch Nails' second studio album, though it is largely considered the third major release after the Broken EP, which consisted of entirely new material. It was released on March 8, 1994. A collection featuring remixes from The Downward Spiral was released as Further Down The Spiral on June 1, 1995.
Album · 1994 · 14 Songs. When Trent Reznor submitted The Downward Spiral to Interscope Records cofounder Jimmy Iovine, he offered an apology. Sorry, Reznor remembered saying in a 2016 interview with Beats 1 host Zane Lowe
