Robbers on High Street began performing publicly during the summer of 2002, but the band's roots stretch back much further. Ben Trokan and Steve "Sparky" Mercado have been friends since their preteen years growing up in the upstate New York town of Poughkeepsie. Ten years later Trokan returned to New York City for college and through mutual friends met and began playing with drummer Tomer Danan. In June 2010, the 7" single Electric Eye b/w Face In The Fog, two tracks from the yet unreleased upcoming album tentatively titled Hey There Golden Hair, was released on Engine Room Recordings. Some brief Northeast tours in the Summer and Fall in support followed, as well as an appearance at the 2010 CMJ Music Marathon.

Although Robbers on High Street only started playing together and in public in 2002, boardist Ben Trokan and guitarist/singer Steve Mercado had been friends since their childhoods spent in Poughkeepsie, NY. After high school, Trokan moved to New York City and began jamming with drummer Tomer Danan while Mercado stayed at home, getting together to play with friend and bassist Jeremy Phillips. Eventually, the four came together and started Robbers on High Street, basing themselves in .

Hey There Golden Hair will be the first album in four years for the group since their 2007 release of Grand Animals. Produced by front-man Ben Trokan and Flight of the Concords engineer Matt Shane, the album will boast a newly-expanded 6 man lineup and contributions from a horn section from Daptone Records. Vocalist Ben Trokan really takes this band different places: Beatlesque baroque pop on lead track Hollow Hill, a soft croon on Electric Eye (a little bit reminiscent of Wilco circa Summerteeth), ragged and plaintive in Monkey, and positively Kinksian in All Wires Are Crossed.
