Rhythm Pigs - Long Black Veil download album
Profile: Formed in El Paso, Texas and later moved to San Francisco, California, USA.
Instead of changing their sound to accommodate the talents of their guests, the band plays it straight. None of the guest singers sound displaced or uncomfortable, which is largely due to the sympathetic performances of the Chieftains
Long Black Veil" is a 1959 country ballad, written by Danny Dill and Marijohn Wilkin and originally recorded by Lefty Frizzell. It is told from the point of view of an executed man falsely accused of murder. He refuses to provide an alibi, since on the night of the murder he was having an affair with his best friend's wife, and would rather die and take their secret to his grave than admit the truth

Long Black Veil was largely the brainchild of Nashville legend Danny Dill, who was attempting to write a folk song that would last for the ages. He was partially inspired by a newspaper story of a priest in New Jersey who was killed under a streetlight with witnesses watching. For the chorus, Dill drew from the song God Walks These Hills With Me. Perhaps most fascinating of all, Dill borrowed elements of the urban legend surrounding the grave of actor Rudolph Valentino.
The information about his involvment comes from various news bits over the years, and mention of this album in discographies published by those who would know, like Niall Stokes. The lead vocals are by Mick Jagger and The Chieftens. Originally they were performed by Bono, but were not used.
