This zarzuela in two acts by the composer Jacinto Guerrero was premiered in the Apolo Theatre in Madrid on 3 December 1926. The libretto, in prose and verse, is by Enrique Reoyo and Juan Ignacio Luca de Tena. It is set in Toledo in the early 17th century, specifically in the context of "La ilustre fregona", one of the "Exemplary Novels" by Miguel de Cervantes.
