The V.S.O.P. Quintet - Five Stars download album
Sony Music Labels Inc. SICJ 91. Japan.
This is a decent jazz record made by the same quintet that recorded Live Under the Sky a couple days prior. It's performed well, is listenable and pleasant, but not all that interesting. Unfortunately, that's typical of most of the VSOP recordings. They were sort of reliving the hard-bop (or post-bop) days of the mid-60s. The groups led by Miles, Herbie, Shorter, and Hubbard all made this style of jazz back then; it's always nice to hear it, but this group wasn't breaking any new ground. As a result, none of their records made a huge impact.

For each of the quintet members this . period was, to my opinion, a highlight in the career. Absolutely captivating jazz, although the sound isn& perfect, by far. The bass and drums are somewhat compressed, lacking colour, dynamics and air, unfortunately.
