The Whispers is the ninth studio album by American R&B/soul vocal group The Whispers, released on October 20, 1979 by SOLAR Records. It was the first hit album for the veteran group, peaking at number one on the Billboard Top Soul LPs chart, as well as number six on the Billboard Top LPs chart
In 1997 they had their last hit single with Babyface's "My My My" (originally a hit for Johnny Gill in 1990) out of their album "Song Book Volume One" in which they performed songs written by Babyface. They have contributed vocals in releases of Pattie Brooks (1977), Carrie Lucas (1980), Collage (3) (1981), Gary Taylor (1988, 2006), Phil Perry (2) (1998).

It includes the number-one R&B single, And The Beat Goes On and A Song For Donny, a tribute song to American musician and vocalist Donny Hathaway who died in January 1979. A Song For Donny was a success on the R&B Charts, making it to #21.

As a group who have recorded since the late '60s, the Whispers seemed to often be textbook journeyman who were one bum steer away from obscurity. Throughout the '70s they got their success by way of sporadic, great tracks like 1970's sad-sack anthem, "Gotta Do Wrong," and 1976's "Living Together (In Sin).
