Paru en 2011, l'album Avant Ailleurs a pris tout le monde par surprise. Ailleurs (somewhere else): Texts recited or sung by Lucien Francoeur in 2011 are visited, contamined, by Vromb's sound universe. The prayers of the urban rocker are conveyed by a musical humming out of all musical conventions and ephemeral tendencies. Clever noises and electronic waves of drones, associate with rhythms, bark climates and acoustic variations. The exquisite noise guitarist, Michel meunier, marks his presence on this close encounter of the third kind. VROMB & Lucien Francoeur - The Future Is Now, Prière Interdite (06:00)

What at first glance may appear to be a mismatch made to measure between two incompatible entities is actually something of a unique breath of fresh air in the otherwise tired format of noise manipulations meets spoken word poetry. Having zero to barely any actual knowledge of the artistic genius of Lucien Francoeur (as a child of the 80s uninterested in french-language commercial music of "any" era) I came into this sonic journey fresh and without expectations, save perhaps for the Vromb (Hugo Girard) side, to which I am quite unconditionally well versed (having been a fan since 1993 or so). Musically speaking the audio micro multiverses created by Vromb offer more sonically-enhanced electroid-spacial shifts and pulses, nothing short of the perfectionism he is well known for. There is a sense of condensed urgency within his aural scupturing, all the while allowing each of his bleeps, pulses, and "vrombissements" enough time and space to co-exist within the same plane of perception as the words of Francoeur. His old school rocker musings are much less obvious are they are abstract paintings and slices of existance rather than rantings of someone layering his disapproval over the modern age and state of being. His careful choice of words and juxtaposition create easy to view conceptual non-scenarios, glimpses of a life well lived but unknown to the universal mindset, grabbing the listener, intent on finding a little piece of truth. This is local 514 infused existentialism at its best, both nostalgic melancholy and a firm grasp on the ever-expanding fluidity of the modern moment. I myself was very impressed by this collaboration which resonated in both my continuing appreciation of Vrombesque soundscaping and a very close-to-home feel of self expression in the words and delivery of Lucien Francoeur. Different, abstract, untraditional, this is highly recommended even if you don't understand French, for Francoeur's very francophonic bits in english are an iceberg's cherry-topped tip.
