In a way, it's a little odd that famed producer Mitchell Froom found it necessary to record a solo album, since he stamps his own signature on every album he makes. The artists he produces often sound like guests on their own records, as their voices get buried beneath his murky, self-aborbed production. On Dopamine, he at least bills David Hidalgo, Suzanne Vega, M. Doughty, Lisa Germano, Mark Eitzel, Ron Sexsmith and Sheryl Crow (among many others) as guest artists, leaving no doubt that these vocalists are merely a front for his production.
As a musician, Froom has released two solo albums, Dopamine (1998) and A Thousand Days (2005) Froom was a judge for the 2nd annual Independent Music Awards to support independent artists' careers. Hi first wife was Connie Jester, with whom he had daughter Charlotte Froom (born 1986). Charlotte was the bassist in The Like. Froom married Suzanne Vega in 1995; they separated in 1998

Dopamine by FROOM, MITCHELL. Suppose you threw a party and everybody came. That's pretty much what's happened to Mitchell Froom, record producer (Richard Thompson, Elvis Costello) turned performer, who put together this weird pastiche of Tom Waits-esque instrumental music, bizarre pop songs, and atmospheric singer/songwriter tunes (courtesy of former clients Mark Eitzel and Ron Sexsmith) with a cast of too many to count.
