The second volume of the 1995 series follows a focused tangent that started with 'Elegy' on the previous release, and groups together several of Fripp's live forays out into the deeply contemplative, mournful, and peaceful dimension of Soundscapes. Well this one. Robert Fripp- "A Blessing of Tears" -1995. The most universal "soundscape" album before the last one(?) ("At the End of Time"-2007).

When Robert Fripp's mother passed away in 1993, he chose the new age sounds of his soundscape series to serve as a tribute to her. The liner notes in the CD booklet contain a beautifully written eulogy (by Fripp himself) about the interesting life of his mother Edie. All of the tracks were recorded live during a week-long . West Coast tour, and it differs from the preceding Soundscapes release, Radiophonics, because its sole purpose is obviously not to test his audience's "listening capabilities.

A new version of Last. A Blessing of Tears: 1995 Soundscapes, Volume 2: Live in California. Overview (current section).

Robert Fripp's "A Blessing of Tears" consists of improvised live performances from Fripp's solo soundscapes tour in the beginning of 1995. Soundscapes is a form of digital guitar looping based on Frippertronics- tape-based guitar looping that Brian Eno concocted. Fripp performs this in many contexts, in the case of this album, as a solo performer. The music on this album is entirely improvised, with only Fripp's guitar and processing in place. The result does not sound like a solo guitar record, but closer to electronic orchestral ambient music. Fripp does an excellent job of conveying his grief in the eight selections that comprise A Blessing of Tears, while his sorrow is evident in some of the tracks' titles ("The Cathedral of Tears," "A Blessing of Tears," et.

As you can imagine from the name, Robert Fripp's experiments in noise are more sound than music. Describing them is never an easy task - I can throw out phrases like "hazy clouds" and "ethereal waves" and "ambient noise" all day and not even come close to really describing what these works sound like. This is an impressive achievement from a technical standpoint alone; looping and layering levels of music on top of each other can get complex enough as it is, but these 'Scapes don't just rely on one sound-delayed loop - there are four. This is the album where he got it all down perfectly.
