In 2011, Maroon 5 re-released their third album, Hands All Over. As a part of the re-release, they added four new singles onto the album, with the final one being Moves Like Jagger, a collaboration with Christina Aguilera that demonstrated an ambitious move towards pop music. The track shot to the top of the Billboard Top 100, and with this newfound success, the band decided to use Moves Like Jagger as the basis for their fourth studio album, Overexposed

Prior to the release of Maroon 5’s third album ‘Hands All Over’ in 2010, lead singer Adam Levine was quoted by Rolling Stone magazine saying Eventually I want to focus on being a completely different person because I don’t know if I want to do this into my 40s and 50s and beyond, like the Rolling Stones Fact Two . Seemingly with no hesitation at all come June 26th 2012, where Maroon 5 released their fourth album ‘Overexposed’ to ride on the back of the success of ‘Moves Like Jagger’. Unlike the long stints of five and three years between their other albums, ‘Overexposed’ seemed to be rushed through the production line to keep feeding the millions of new fans that flocked to their newfound sound.

Maroon 5 settled into a cleanly contoured blue-eyed soul groove on 2010's Hands All Over and were rewarded with a clear commercial stumble - a situation somewhat forgotten in light of Adam Levine's 2011 elevation to superstardom via his judgeship on The Voice. Levine didn't abandon his band once he became a TV star. Just as the first season finished, Maroon 5 recorded a duet with Christina Aguilera, "Moves Like Jagger," a single far more modern than anything on Hands All Over and, not surprisingly, a much bigger hit than anything from that 2010 LP.

Overexposed is the fourth studio album by the American pop rock band Maroon 5. The album was recorded between 2011 and 2012 and was driven after the moderate success of their third album Hands All Over (2010) and later by the successful re-release single Moves Like Jagger. The band worked with different producers, such as Max Martin, who serves as the album’s executive producer, Ryan Tedder, Shellback and Benny Blanco.
