Barton reveals herself to be an exceptional singer, sassy and sly but with a welcome tendency toward restraint. Many singers in this style try too hard to prove their soulfulness and end up sounding ridiculous. She's also got a keen eye for songs, investing the old standard "Finger Poppin' Time" with enough relish to make it sound fresh and turning Marshall Crenshaw's rockabilly-tinged "Brand New Lover" into a full-on Wanda Jackson-style barnburner

Lou Ann Barton (born February 17, 1954, Fort Worth, Texas, United States) is an American blues singer based in Austin, Texas since the 1970s. In the early 1970s, she did a stint with the jump blues band Roomful of Blues. During that time, in 1975, she joined up with W. C. Clark to form his W. Clark Blues Revue.

For anyone who like Lou Ann Barton, I would consider this one as a "must have," Even the cover photo is pretty hot. For those not so familiar, but who enjoy this genre, take a good listen. I've listened to her music for several years and I've liked it from the get-go, but others might consider it an aquired taste. Luckily, I own the original vinyl version of this album. American Beat Records' "Old Enough" by Lou Ann Barton (1982) is one of the worst-sounding reissues ever. If I were into file-sharing, I wouldn't feel bad about giving this rip-off away to others.
