Complete your Clubfoot Orchestra collection. In 1989, I won 2 tickets from KFJC to see "Nosferatu" & "The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari" at the old Varsity Theater in Palo Alto, California, with Club Foot Orchestra performing the live accompaniment. This was both the most fascinating film & music experience I have ever had. The band's modern soundtrack to these old silent films was near -perfect in its execution & I wish there was a DVD of these films with the band's music

The Club Foot Orchestra is a multi-faceted musical ensemble whose live performances of modern scores for silent film sparked a revival in the genre that continues today. Their innovative style creates a musical atmosphere that brings silent film into the modern era, synthesizing sounds of Eastern European music, Impressionism, and Jazz Fusion

THE CLUB FOOT ORCHESTRA is a music ensemble founded in 1983 by Richard Marriott. After a brief career playing dramatic, complex music in San Francisco clubs, they became known for their equally dramatic and complex scores for classic silent movies. Portions of the "Nosferatu" score were contributed by Gino Robair, introducing a period of collaborative composition. New scores for the films Metropolis, Sherlock J. Pandora's Box and The Hands of Orlac were presented at art houses across America and also at venues such as Lincoln Center and the Smithsonian Institution. In 1999 a smaller version of the orchestra performed Legong: Dance of the Virgins with Gamelan Sekar Jaya on a score cowritten by Marriott and Made Subandi. In January 2005, Marriott’s new scores for Battleship Potemkin and Phantom of the Opera were premiered at New York’s World Financial Center.

The band's modern soundtrack to these old silent films was near -perfect in its execution & I wish there was a DVD of these films with the band's music. It's also rather sad that the Varsity closed in the early 90's & was converted to a Border's bookstore (which I'm sure is now also gone). Club Foot Orchestra also did soundtracks to Metropolis & Pool Of Thanatos, which I would have loved to see with them performing live.
