El dia que me quieras.
For 30 years Michel Plasson has recorded French music exclusively for EMI Classics. This exclusive box is truly unique as it covers all the masterpieces of French repertoire: concertos by Ravel, Fauré's Requiem, Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique, Bizet's only symphony, L'Arlesienne; Lalo's Symphony; etc. but also rarities such as absolute and Ropartz Magnard symphonies, sacred music by Gounod, works by Roussel rarities, and even music for film by Marcel Carne.
Symphonie, Soir de Fête. 4. FR. La Voix de son maître (French impression of "His Master’s Voice"), Pathé Marconi EMI (record company, renamed EMI Pathé Marconi in 1986).
This is a set to treasure: all of Michel Plasson and the Toulouse Orchestra’s EMI recordings of French music (minus the operas), including rarities like Gounod’s Mors et Vita, Ropartz’s choral Third Symphony, the four symphonies of Magnard, Ravel’s three cantatas submitted for the Prix de Rome, d’Indy’s Second Symphony, Roussel’s Evocations, Sauguet’s circus ballet. Performances and recording quality are first-class. The familiar Berlioz items, such as the Symphonie Fantastique and various overtures, are equal to any recorded competition, in my opinion. Featured artists include Villazón, Gedda, von Otter, Pollet, Dumay, Duchable, Collard, and many more. There are two drawbacks. Instead there is a puff piece about Plasson, full of the usual pompous histrionics.
