The Smiths - The Smiths download album

The Smiths is the debut studio album by English rock band the Smiths, recorded in 1983 and released on 20 February 1984 by record label Rough Trade. After the original production by Troy Tate was felt to be inadequate, John Porter re-recorded the album in London, Manchester and Stockport during breaks in the band's UK tour during September 1983. The album was well received by the critics as well as the public; it reached number two on the UK Albums Chart and stayed on the chart for 33 weeks

I Don't Owe You Anything' from The Smiths debut album.

On the surface, the Smiths' sound wasn't radically different from traditional British guitar pop - Johnny Marr's ringing, layered guitars were catchy and melodic - but it was actually an astonishing subversion of the form, turning the structure inside out. Very few of the songs followed conventional verse-chorus structure, yet they were quite melodic within their own right.

The album contains many Smiths classics, from This Charming Man, with its indelible pop hook to the screaming absurdity of Miserable Lie where Morrissey becomes unhinged in playful torment. What Difference Does It Make? establishes Morrissey’s rhetorical side, while Pretty Girls Make Graves and You’ve Got Everything Now address the envy and angst of youth to stunning effect. Morrissey’s sense of a world gone wrong can be heard as empathy ( Suffer Little Children, Still Ill ) or as indignation ( I Don’t Owe You Anything ) - all told, a brilliant debut album from a band destined for. The Smiths’ self-titled debut was an astonishingly fresh approach to guitar-based pop in the mid-1980s. The British quartet worked as a fully functioning unit with each member bringing an economy of style.

Genre: Alternative rock. The Smiths – The Queen Is Dead (1986). The Smiths – Strangeways, Here We Come (1987). The Smiths – Meat Is Murder (1985). Mail (will not be published) (required). Sara Bareilles – Amidst the Chaos (2019). Artist: Sara Bareilles. Album: Amidst the Chaos. Genre: Pop. Released: 2019.

From the Smiths' first single, "Hand in Glove", in the spring of 1983, to their breakup barely four years later, everything about them seemed like a considered and ingenious decision: their name's undertones of both facelesness and creativity, the way each of their records began with a different sort of guitar tone, the tinted monochrome photos on their sleeves, their proudly ashamed  . Rank, released after Morrissey had launched his solo career, is useful as the Smiths' only full-on live album, and as a document of the brief era when Craig Gannon was their second guitarist (the Queen Is Dead tour, basically).
