The White Stripes is the debut studio album by American alternative rock duo The White Stripes, released on June 15, 1999. White dedicated the album to deceased blues musician Son House. Johnny Walker of the Soledad Brothers played slide guitar on two songs: "Suzy Lee" and "I Fought Piranhas"

Jack White would like to dedicate this album to Son House. All tracks published by Peppermint Stripe Music, except track 2 & 16 (no publishing details), track 13 published by Sony/ATV Music Publishing. Label Code: LC 05667.

In fact, the White Stripes sound like arena rock as hand-crafted in the attic. Singer/guitarist Jack White's voice is a singular, evocative combination of punk, metal, blues, and backwoods while his guitar work is grand and banging with just enough lyrical touches of slide and subtle solo work to let you know he means to use the metal-blues riff collisions just so. Drummer Meg White balances out the fretwork and the fretting with methodical, spare, and booming cymbal, bass drum, and snare cracks. In a word, economy (and that goes for both of the players).

Some bands need to make 2-3 albums before they really get good and have their mature, marketable sound. With The White Stripes, I would say that they were excellent right from the start, even though many listeners have not heard the songs on this album since they didn't get much radio play time, and the band wasn't known much outside of Detroit when this album came out. In that way, many listeners will feel like they are tapping secret music by the White Stripes right at their beginning

The White Stripes was their first album, released in 1999. The White Stripes, as stated earlier, is a very raw, bare-bones album, with no fringe to the songs at all. Jack White's guitar playing is loud, raunchy, reverb-soaked, and metallic, while Meg White's drumming is amazingly simple, almost like a cave-woman version of Ringo Starr, but a hell of a lot louder and thumping. Wasting My Life" is an earnest, somewhat slow song showcasing some of Jack's guitar playing, in its beautiful simplicity, and "Broken Bricks" is a hyperactive, slam-dance-inducing romp through garage-rock Hell, and that's all there is to it. "St. James Infirmary" is undoubtedly the best song here, and is obviously the most unique. The song is driven by piano, the first time it appears on the album, and has an almost foreign feel to it. This album is nowhere near perfect, though.

The White Stripes was an American rock duo formed in 1997 in Detroit, Michigan. The group consisted of Jack White (songwriter, vocals, guitar, piano, and mandolin) and Meg White (drums and vocals). After releasing several singles and three albums within the Detroit music scene, The White Stripes rose to prominence in 2002, as part of the garage rock revival scene
