Station to Station is the 10th studio album by English musician David Bowie, released by RCA Records in 1976. Commonly regarded as one of his most significant works, Station to Station was the vehicle for his performance persona, the Thin White Duke. The album was recorded after he completed shooting Nicolas Roeg's The Man Who Fell to Earth, and the cover artwork featured a still from the movie

About Station to Station. 1975 was a very productive year for Bowie: Young Americans achieved the first place in a lot of countries in the world and, his single, Fame achieved the success that Bowie was looking for since the very beginning of his solitary career. But 1976 came in and Bowie began to relate himself with ocultism and other manifestations of black magic. Bowie started to become obsessed with numerology. After a concert, as Paolo Hewitt said in his book, David said to a journalist: Numbers weren’t favorable that night

Before performing Station to Station‘s melancholy Word on a Wing, he added that the song was unwittingl. signal of distress; I’m sure that it was a call for help. And yet, according to guitarist Carlos Alomar, when Bowie and the band hit Cherokee Studios to make a new album in the fall of 1975, all of the havoc was left at the door. When we were in work mode, it was always about the work, he says. If it was fueled by coke or by whatever, David was always able to manage the decision-making. And it was always the same concern for him: ‘What are the lyrics, and what am I going to talk.

Released: January1976 Label: RCA Producers: David Bowie, Harry Maslin. Station to Station was another album that had the original sleeve withdrawn just before release in the US and the UK. The withdrawn-by-Bowie colour version even went as far as being illustrated in RCA pre-release promotional material and some copies of the printed slick even made it to record stores in the UK for display purposes

In just six (long) tracks, Station to Station manages to incorporate almost everything fantastic about pop music: it's dramatic, stylish, emotional and danceable. Yet despite the fact that Bowie was at his maddest (he told NME that Britain needed a fascist leader a few weeks after the album's release in 1976), and so out of it that he can't even remember recording the thing, Station to Station is almost frighteningly accomplished, with a glittering, malevolent glamour I've heard on no other record. Has there ever been a more epic album opener than the title track? The first minute is just a sound effect – a train travelling counter-intuitively from the right speaker to the left.
