The Spinners - The Spinners download album

Spinners is the third studio album recorded by American R&B group The Spinners, produced by Thom Bell and released in April 1973 on the Atlantic label. The album was the group's first for Atlantic after leaving Motown. Spinners includes their first American top-ten and R&B number-one hit "I'll Be Around", along with the successful songs "Could It Be I'm Falling in Love", "One of a Kind (Love Affair)", "Ghetto Child", and "How Could I Let You Get Away".

Profile: A Liverpool-based folk quartet, formed 1958: Tony Davis, Mick Groves, Cliff Hall and Hugh Jones. Had their first TV appearance 1960 and also had their own BBC1 show in the 1960s that ran for many years. They have guested with Nana Mouskouri, Morecambe & Wise and Harry Secombe among others. Not to be confused with the legendary Motown soul group Spinners (aka The Detroit Spinners).

The Spinners – Spinners (1973/2015). Artist: The Spinners Album: Spinners Genre: Funk, Soul Origin: USA Released: 1973/2015 Quality: mp3, 320 kbps. A superb album, arguably their finest, though not their biggest, crossover work. The Spinners teamed with Thom Bell and outpaced Motown with this album of glorious anthems. I’ll Be Around and Could It Be I’m Falling in Love ended any discussions, mentions, or even thoughts of their former lead singer . Cameron, as Philippe Wynne was emerging as the king of immaculate, sophisticated soul. They had three R&B chart-toppers from this album and were now dominating the Motown acts they once idolized.

The Spinners were rivaled only by the O'Jays as the greatest Philly soul group, and for that matter the greatest vocal group of the '70s. For listeners who don't want to dig as deeply as the excellent double-CD anthology One of a Kind Love Affair, Rhino's The Very Best of the Spinners is a stellar single-disc career summary that offers a concentrated dose of the group's sweet soul magic. There's more to discover on One of a Kind Love Affair, but The Very Best of the Spinners is so solid from top to bottom that it's hard to argue with; one or the other is a necessary purchase for anyone even remotely interested in '70s soul.

At their best, The Spinners represented the pinnacle of the Philly Sound. For I’ll Be Around and Could It Be I’m Falling In Love producers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff and arranger Thom Bell borrowed the quietly pulsating drums of Al Green’s Let’s Stay Together and pillowed it with strokes of guitar, bells, and strings. Unlike some of their masterful productions for The O’Jays and the Delfonics, Gamble and Huff never let The Spinners become overblown. Their songs translated the heart-pounding excitement of brand new love but made it sound like a private conversation in a corner booth.
