The Ruiner - The Ruiner download album
Ruiner, released on August 16, 2005 through Nitro Records, is the second full-length album from the Massachusetts-based melodic hardcore band A Wilhelm Scream, since changing their name from Smackin' Isaiah in 2002. Ruiner has been released four times, three times on CD and once on coloured 12" vinyl.
This outer album cover will make you smile every time, with the album and cover combined weight, and with its tendency to make your hands dirty with rust (again, they resisted the temptation to paint the steel with a clear lacquer). Zoom out one last time to the outer layer of presentation, and you'll once more be impressed as I'm hard-pressed to find an example of an artist taking a leaf out of technology manufacturers playbook, by putting loads of thought into how they wrap their product.

The Ruiner is the first record that truly harnesses Christmas' range. This is because it's the first that truly harnesses Made Out of Babies' range. Due to time constraints, the band's writing process fractured, with members working individually or in small combinations. This produced their most varied, nuanced record to date. Noise-rock and metal comprise much of The Ruiner, but it's really the heir to PJ Harvey's Rid of Me. That record's Led Zeppelin-esque bombast (recorded by Steve Albini, who also engineered The Ruiner's predecessor, Coward) appears here in big, boxy drums and Christmas' dramatic vocals. Like Harvey, she sings, screams, and seduces all at once.
