Echo & the Bunnymen is the fifth studio album by the English post-punk band Echo & the Bunnymen, their last with drummer Pete de Freitas, who died in 1989 in a motorcycle accident, aged 27. The album was produced by Laurie Latham who recorded the album in Germany, Belgium, London and Liverpool; this followed an aborted attempt at recording the album without de Freitas and with producer Gil Norton.

The Echo & The Bunnymen frontman explores "The Killing Moon," talks about his "cryptic without being contentious" lyrics, and tries to popularize a new punctuation. Echo & The Bunnymen fulfilled a unique role in the evolution of British rock music.

I couldn't believe that Echo & The Bunnymen had done a fifth studio album this bad. Ian McCullough always made sure the band stayed artsy and inventive, but the decision to go with a more radio-friendly pop-rock attempt, with heightened synths, more poppy vocals and unheard of studio-sounding synthetic instruments for Echo & The Bunnymen. It sounds like a record producer wrote the album; I'm sure Ian regrets self-titling it in hindsight.
