David Holmes - Come Get It I Got It download album

The sound of David Holmes finds its origin in the work of classic film composers such as Lalo Schifrin, John Barry and Ennio Morricone, but also in raw jazz, funk, soul and blues, which is made in the heyday of the LSD. Its versatility is evidenced by the wide variety of artists, for which he received the production or the remixes, such as Fila Brazillia, Kruder Dorfmeister &, Manic Street Preachers, Primal Scream, Red Snapper, Jon Spencer Blues Band and Therapy?. Completely sick of the ease with which most compilation CDs, Holmes decided to do it his way. On Come Get It I Got It, he tells his story by making a small twenty gems from his extensive vinyl collection, select it and this to ' verelektroniseren ' through overdubs. Under the name The Free Association, he composed the connecting pieces to the whole even smoother.

Come Get It is mostly made up of 60's funk and early 70's r-n-b obscurities. Being half pop disc, half DJ experimentation, Holmes puts his talents to the test and shows us why he does what he does. Electronic genius David Holmes, a virtual unknown in America, struck gold once again with an album remixing 1960s and 1970s funk and R&B with smooth instrumentals and modern vocals. Holmes' latest Come Get It I Got It, released in April, has the ingenuity of DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist's hip-hop remixes, without the hip hop, and Moby's soul remixes, without the soul. Holmes' fifth individual release instead blends funk, oft ignored by techno artists, with his own creativity in electronica.

As his 1998 mix proved, Holmes' selector abilities are nearly unparalleled; Come Get It I Got It rescues 16 tracks of seriously obscure popcorn soul from the '60s and '70s, and only two or three of the performers will be familiar to most listeners. A track from Muddy Waters, the crackling "Tom Cat" from his 1968 "psychedelic" crossover record Electric Mud, is much more infamous than famous. Holmes appears to be interested as much in oddball novelties as in great tracks, and it's hard to avoid the impression he spends his days trawling for outrageous, crazy material rather than just good music.

The opinions of collectors and obsessive DJs notwithstanding, there’s only a certain amount of obscure music out there, and even less that’s worth its salt. That fact apparently left David Holmes – celebrity soundtracker and mixer par excellence – with few options but to record a few of his own soul tracks to sprinkle into this mix album. Come Get It I Got It, his second major mix (after the masterpiece Essential Mix.

chosen to launch his new label, 13 Amp, with a mix album of. sheer quality. In the past he could have been accused of trying a little too. hard. His last self-written album, ‘Bow Down To Exit Sign’, was essentially an homage to MC5 and the sounds of ’60s US. garage. So keen was Holmes to prove his mettle that much of. the ramshackle rock ‘n’ soul, so central an element of the. original sounds, was cleaned out. On ‘Come Get It I Got It’, he kicks back and relaxes. Always known for a keen ear – his ‘Essential Mix’ of 1998. still demands repeat listening – Holmes has developed into.
