This album is a "great vehicle" to take the poet laureate of the 20th century's brilliant work to a new level on the wings of America's own genre, the blues. Wonderful interpretations throughout. This CD contains excellent cover versions of Bob Dylan songs. I don't normally like cover versions but these are genuinely good. I particularly like "All Along the Watchtower.
Tangled Up in Blues: Songs of Bob Dylan is a 1999 album of Bob Dylan songs performed in blues and soul styles by various artists. The album's title is a play on the Dylan song title "Tangled Up in Blue". Although the album technically falls into the category of tribute albums, the artwork on the cover features the admonition "This Ain't No Tribute". The final track on the album, a cover of "One Too Many Mornings", was the last recording ever made by The Band.
That said, though, Dylan's songs do sound tremendously authentic in this context anyway, and most of the artists present give them sympathetic readings.

While covering Bob Dylan songs certainly isn't a novel idea, it's potentially a very interesting idea to have contemporary blues musicians perform Dylan compositions indebted to that form, since it's sometimes easy to overlook the deeply traditional roots of his music in light of the vast new territories he opened up. So, perhaps the most disappointing aspect of Tangled Up in Blues: Songs of Bob Dylan is the fact that it doesn't sound that deeply traditional – these are, after all, contemporary blues musicians making contemporary recordings, which means that the production.
