Grandmaster Melle Mel and the Furious Five was released in 1984 by Sugarhill Records after the split between Grandmaster Flash and Melle Mel. New rappers King Lou, Kami Kaze, and Tommy Gunn joined, as did Flash's best friend E. Z. Mike as DJ.
The group: King Lou, Scorpio, Grandmaster E-Z Mike, Dynamite, Tommy Gunn, Kami Kaze, Cowboy & Melle Mel.

I was sittin' on the corner just a-wastin' my time When I realised I was the king of the rhyme I got on the microphone and what do you see? Huh, the rest was my legacy I was born to be the king of the be-bop swing To have stallions and medallions, big diamond rings I own a castle and a yacht, two million in gold Because rap is the game that I control I'm like Shakespeare, I'm a pioneer Because I made rap somethin' people wanted to hear See, before my reign, it was the same old same "To the bop with the bop", that street-talk game So if y. .
After the original configuration of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five parted ways, Melle Mel retained the group's name (at least the "Grandmaster" and "Furious Five" monikers) and continued recording. Mel was an integral part of the original Furious Five, and helped write many of the crew's best lyrics, including the rap classic "The Message," and he applied those same skills to his pair of mid-'80s albums with the Furious Five.
Today the group's legacy continues on as Grandmaster's Furious Five with only Melle Mel and Scorpio as remaining members. The group is widely regarded as among the most influential hip hop acts. Their biggest single and acknowledged masterpiece "The Message" (1982) is often cited as one of the greatest hip hop songs of all time. In 2007 they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, making them the first hip hop group ever to be inducted. Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five discography.
