Bob Seger And The Last Heard - Heavy Music download album
Most rock fans know Bob Seger had a career before 1976's Night Moves first gave him a major hit outside the Midwest, but given how much of his back catalog has stubbornly remained out of print, many don't know just how far back the trail goes. Plenty of folks are aware of the 1975 album Beautiful Loser, and the better informed even know he hit the singles charts with "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man" in 1968. But Seger has been a major presence in his native Michigan as far back as June 1966 (a month after he turned 21), when "East Side Story," a tune he cut with.

Heavy Music (Part 1). 2:32. Heavy Music (Part 2). For Detroiters, this was a monster hit for the young Bob Seger. A mix of soul, rock, funk, it's some sort of tribal masterpiece. Seger's vocals are strong - this is as powerful as Martha Reeves' "Dancing in the Streets" and the Reflections' "Just Like Romeo and Juliet". Seger changed the name of his band, because apparently it sounded like "Bob Seger and the Last Turd". Fun fact to know and tell your friends. Reply Notify me 3 Helpful.
American singer-songwriter Bob Seger‘s early work as Bob Seger and The Last Heard is brought together by ABKCO for a new single album collection called Heavy Music: The Complete Cameo Recordings 1966-1967. Seger had been in various bands in the Detroit area in the early 1960s, before scoring a minor success with the single Heavy Music, which was issued on Cameo-Parkway Records. Other singles put out via the same label included the Dylanesque ‘Persecution Smith’ and ‘Sock It To Me Santa’, which is an obvious nod to James Brown

But Seger and his band weren’t interested in expanding the mind; they were aiming for the gut, which is precisely where Heavy Music lands. A high-octane R&B number that blends a Motown beat with a proto-punk attack as vicious as early MC5, it was the pivotal early Seger, the place where he blended passion with party music. Primed to be a career-making single, Heavy Music rocketed to the top of the Detroit charts and was poised to enter the Billboard Top 100 when Cameo/Parkway went under. The song may have survived that long, but Seger never again looked back to the singles he made with the Last Heard. He also consigned his first seven albums to the dustheap of history, leaving many terrific records out of print. He had no say in the release of Heavy Music, but this isn’t juvenilia that tarnishes his reputation.
